Hello everyone my name is Akshay Patel.

 My blog will cover all the fascinating details about Mark Edward Kelly, who is an American politician, businessman, a former astronaut from NASA, and a former U.S Navy Captain. Kelly is currently a senator from Arizona for the democrats since 2020. I'm really excited to learn more and address many topics that Kelly has gone through. 


About Mark Kelly:

Age: 57 years old

Growing up, Kelly went to public schools from basic elementary and all the way towards the Merchant Marine Academy and a U.S naval postgraduate school. Kelly is the son of two police officers and he has a twin brother named Scott Kelly, who in fact also used to be an astronaut. According to a source, Kelly stated that he has not been a very religious person.

Why Mark Edward Kelly ran for senate: Kelly said that Washington is in a broken state and that Arizona, the state he ran for deserves independent leadership to solve problems that everyone faces. 

Kelly's experience: Kelly was selected to be an astronaut along with his brother who coincidentally was in the same class in 1996. Kelly flew four missions and his first one was in 2001, boarding the Space Shuttle Endeavor. Before Kelly retired being an astronaut, the same shuttle was used for his last mission in May 2011. He spent more than 50 days in space and has lived on the international space station. There was no data on whether he was planning on going to the moon or not. 

Government Assignments: Kelly's has a co-sponsorship on the legislation with democratic member Jon Ossoff from Georgia. Kelly has been part of numerous committee assignments in the years 2021-2022. His term ends on January 3, 2023, but he will run for election again to represent Arizona on August 2, 2022.

Some facts:

1. Kelly is the husband of former congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.

2. Gabrielle Giffords used to be targeted for assassination in Arizona on the date of January 8, 2011. 

3. Kelly flew 39 combat missions with over 6000 hours on 50 different aircraft.

4. Kelly is the 4th astronaut to be elected in Congress.

  2020 Election         In 2020, Mark Kelly (Democratic) won against Martha McSally (Republican) in the Senate special election in Arizona. 3,355,317 total votes were recorded. Kelly took 1,716,467 votes while McSally had 1,637,661 . Kelly's majority vote margins were in several counties: Pima, Maricopa, and Coconino. In the 2020 election, Kelly raised $39 million while McSally raised $23 million during the Arizona Senate race.
